Bandai Namco released a new batch of screenshots for Code Vein, the upcoming Dark Souls-style action game by the developers of God Eater, including a look at some created characters.
First, here are details on the game’s battle system.
The “Gift” system allows players to gift up to 8 times during battle to temporarily increase attack or defense actions. Gifts can be passive and acquired with specific items or equipment.
Players will manage all of their action including attacking, evading, dashing, and Drain with the Stamina Gauge. This is a crucial part of Code Vein’s gameplay, and players will need to keep a close eye on it as they jump into action.
By successfully performing a “Drain” action the number of Ichor points increases as well as the number of Ichor stock, but it also inflicts massive damage to enemies.
A Special Drain action can be used after successfully timing a parry against an enemy attack, by attacking an enemy from behind, or a combo attack.
The Focus System can temporarily increase character abilities during battle when receiving or dodging an attack while surrounded by multiple enemies. This allows players to fight back and survive in extreme situations and get an added boost when they decided to put themselves in danger.
For example, a player can negate an attack and boos their own damage while throwing enemies in the air using the Focus System. There’s also a “Partner Action” function that allows players to help each other during battle. Companions provide support by attacking from the side, enhancing skills, and sharing HP when needed.
Here’s a look at some examples of Character Creation:
Players will get to create their own characters with options for gender, body, hair style, voice, and more.
Here are some additional details on key characters:
- Louis (pictured above): The young leader Louis really wants to help Revenants suffering from bloodlust. He ventures into the isolated land of Vein looking for the source of Blood Beads to use it as a substitute for human blood. With his one-handed sword he is a swift attack expert and can elude with the armor type Ogre.
- Io: Io is a female Revenant who explores with the protagonists. She has no memories about her past but she knows very well Vein. She will be extremely useful for the player character!
