The gameplay mechanics are pretty much the same. You play as Umihara Kawase, now 20 years old, who has an elastic fish line. She can throw the "rubber ring" out and snag a wall to swing on or hook fish to capture enemies.

Farewell, Umihara Kawase will have several playable characters including the original elementary school age Umihara. When you clear a stage you can earn costumes or items for the game’s visual and sound collections.

Farewell, Umihara Kawase is slated for release in summer 2013 for Nintendo 3DS.
