A Closer Look At Mega Rayquaza In Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire

Further details have been revealed about Mega Rayquaza on the official website for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The site states that Mega Rayquaza is somehow connected to the mystery of Mega Evolution, and that it evolves in a way unlike other Pokémon, due to its unique biology.

Rayquaza has high Attack and Sp. Attack stats. When it Mega Evolves, all of its stats gain a boost, and it gains the Delta Stream ability. This is an ability that has the following effects during battle:

• Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Sandstorm and Hail moves will fail
• Drizzle, Drought, Sand Stream and Snow Warning abilities will fail
• Moves that Flying types are weak to will now only deal normal damage

Delta Stream only remains in effect as long as Mega Rayquaza is battling. When he is switched out of battle, the weather returns to normal. It differs from Rayquaza’s Air Lock ability in that Air Lock cancels out all weather-condition effects for all of the Pokémon in a battle as long as Rayquaza remains in the battle.

Additionally, in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Rayquaza can learn the move Dragon Ascent. This is one of the most powerful Flying-type moves in the game.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be released on November 21st in North America and November 28th in Europe.
