During Microsoft’s E3 press conference the other day, it was announced that a prequel to Life is Strange is currently in the works. Titled Life is Strange: Before the Storm, the prequel will be released in three episode parts, with the first releasing at the end of August. Deck Nine Games will be developing the game, a change from Dontnod Entertainment who developed both the original game and the upcoming Life is Strange 2.
However, that’s not the only thing changing with this prequel. Over on Twitter, Ashly Burch, voice actor for the character Chloe Price in Life is Strange, revealed that she would not be able to reprise her role as the character in the prequel. Burch cites the ongoing SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike as her reason for being unable to return to voicing Chloe.
Hey y’all, to the fans asking – I wasn’t able to reprise my role as Chloe in Life is Strange: Before the Storm due to the SAG-AFTRA strike

She then followed up with that tweet with another saying, “Chloe means a lot to me. Grateful for the opportunity to consult on her character.”
The SAG-AFTRA strike has been going on since around October of last year. It began after unionized voice actors began demanding better working conditions from major publishers for voice actors in videogames. Since then, neither side of the strike has conceded in any form, and there is no way on knowing as of now if this will have any effect on Life is Strange 2.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The first of its three episodes is set to release on August 31st.
