Leyou Technology, a Chinese company, has finalized a deal to acquire SNK Playmore. It plans to branch SNK Playmore’s games into other media following the “Marvel formula,” such as comics, movies, and television (thanks DreamCancel).
Apparently, the appeal of acquiring SNK Playmore was the large number of game IPs and all the tie-ins they’re involved with. This means that in due time you could see The King of Fighters, Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown, and any other SNK Playmore game get the multimedia treatment.
As to the details of the deal itself, apparently two different companies, Oriental Securities and Shunrong Sanqi (a Chinese online gaming giant), that entered a joint venture to invest in Ledo Millennium, which is a subsidiary of Leyou Technology. And so, through Ledo Millennium, they will pay 63.5 million USD to acquire 81.25% of SNK Playmore’s shares directly from SNK Playmore’s former CEO Eikichi Kawasaki and his wife Natsuyo Kawasaki.
The CEO of Oriental Securities, Zheng Jianhui, said that he looks forward to collaborating with other Chinese companies to games, anime, manga, television shows, and movies based on SNK Playmore’s games.
