Chibi Maruko-chan started serialization in 1986, with the manga ending in 2022. A show based on the premise originally ran between 1990 and 1992. The current one started in 1995. It, like Sazae-san and Doraemon, is a widely popular and cultural show in Japan, as well as some countries of East Asia.
The show is a slice-of-life anime that follows the everyday life of Momoko Sakura, or Maruko, as well as her family and friends. She based the characters on people she met in real life too. For example, she used professional soccer player and football manager Kenta Hasegawa as her inspiration for the character Kenta. The two of them attended the same elementary school.
Other shows that are part of Crunchyroll’s Winter 2024 line-up include Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga, and Metallic Rouge. You can check out the entire line-up, as well as its dub line-up, on the official website.
Chibi Maruko-chan will appear on Crunchyroll from January 14, 2024. It’s unknown how many episodes of the show Crunchyroll will have.
