Earlier in the month, we reported that Classic Mode in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has a difficulty slider similar to the one in Kid Icarus: Uprising. Last night on Miiverse, director Masahiro Sakurai talked about the slider, as well as the map that you use to find your opponents.

“In Classic mode, you challenge multiple stages en route to a climactic final battle,” Sakurai wrote. “The more gold you put onto the Fiend’s Scale, the harder the battles will be. In return, your rewards will get better and more abundant. The best way to earn gold fast is to win Classic battles on higher intensity.”

It also sounds like the Intensity feature could have effects beyond giving you greater rewards. Sakurai hints that it may have different outcomes on the route map in Classic Mode.

In a follow-up comment, Sakurai added: “In Classic mode, you can choose your next challenge on the route map. Looks like Master Hand is waiting at the end, but perhaps something might change if you raise the intensity…?!”

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will be available this October.
