The Weekly Shonen Jump magazine officially revealed that a Chainsaw Man anime television show is in the works. The studio famous for Attack on Titan: The Final Season and Dorohedoro, MAPPA, will helm the upcoming adaptation. The magazine did not share further information on when the show will air.
The visceral and gory manga recently made headlines in December 2020. The series sold over 5,000,000 copies, including both physical and digital. Written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the series will only become more prevalent with the upcoming Chainsaw Man anime adaptation. The company launched an official site and Twitter account, as well as a teaser illustration by Fujimoto himself (pictured below).
Chainsaw Man takes place in a world where devils and humans clash or make deals with each other. The protagonist, Denji, is a depressed young man who is trying to pay back his father’s debt to the Yakuza by selling his organs and working as a devil hunter. We were big fans of the manga in our preview, where we found it to be both horrifying and heartwarming. We can only hope the Chainsaw Man anime captures that grotesque charm.
The studio MAPPA will produce the Chainsaw Man anime. No further information on dates is available at the time of this article. We will keep you informed of any new developments.
