The RPG landscape was beginning to shift in 2007 when Lost Odyssey released. Final Fantasy had embraced a more sci-fi aesthetic, moving away from the fantasy roots of earlier entries in the series. Final Fantasy XIII was on the horizon, promising an even more futuristic take on the series. However in this environment, Lost Odyssey reminds us what Final Fantasy might have been if it never strayed into sci-fi.
