Can You Mod Marvel Rivals?

Modding video games is always a blast, and when it comes to games with as much potential as Marvel Rivals, the question on everyone’s mind is, “Can you mod it?” Here’s everything you need to know about mods in Marvel Rivals, including their existence, official policy, and, most importantly, safety.

Marvel Rivals can be modded, and a ton of mods are already out there. From Jeff dressed as Pochita to performance tweaks, there’s plenty to play around with. Officially, NetEase Games advises players to avoid modifying Marvel Rivals’ game files. Though, this doesn’t mean client-side mods are entirely forbidden.

In response to players downloading performance-enhancing mods and playing around with configurations, James, Marvel Rivals’ community manager, posted the following in the official Discord:

Hi Rivals! At this time, we kindly advise against modifying any game files in Marvel Rivals, as it may lead to unexpected issues. We truly appreciate your concerns about config file changes, and we want you to know that we’re actively working on optimizing this aspect for future updates. Thank you so much for your understanding and support!

Can you get banned for modding?

Modding Marvel Rivals is done entirely at your own risk. As the game doesn’t officially support mods, there’s always a risk of suspension or other account penalties. False flags in the game’s anti-cheat could potentially also put your account at risk.

That said, there have been no reported punishments for client-side mods at the time of publishing. On the other hand, anything that does affect other players, such as wall-hacks and other cheats, will earn you a swift (and well-deserved) ban.

Your questionable Squirrel Girl mod is likely fine for now, but keep an eye on Marvel Rivals’ social media and community sources for updates on the safety and support of modding. If you don’t feel comfortable modding, plenty of free Hero skins are earnable right now.

How to mod Marvel Rivals

If you’re willing to accept the potential consequences, the easiest way to mod Marvel Rivals is through Nexus Mods. To download mods, follow these steps:

  • Find the mod you wish to download and click Manual to download the zipped folder.
  • Right-click the folder, click Extract All, then Extract to create an unzipped folder. (You may need to download a program like WinRAR to do this.)
  • Launch Steam and right-click Marvel Rivals in your Library.
  • Hover over Manage and click Browse local files.
  • Open the MarvelGame folder, then Marvel, Content, and finally Paks.
  • Right-click inside the Paks folder and create a folder titled “Mods” (or something similar).
  • Drag the mod (.pak file) from the unzipped folder into the new Mods folder.

That’s it! Your mod should be working as soon as you launch Marvel Rivals. Keep in mind that some mods may not work well with one another, and be sure to read the mod descriptions for any additional information.

Marvel Rivals is available to play for free on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
