While Rush of Heroes is set in typical fantasy setting, Firefly Games put a twist on the action RPG genre by creating a parody with self-aware heroes. Siliconera spoke with the team at Firefly Games to find out what’s underneath the tropes and orcs.

Could you give us a brief overview of Rush of Heroes for those who aren’t familiar with the game?

Dan Munteanu, Director of Marketing: Rush of Heroes is an action packed RPG with fully interactive 3D battles. You command a team of heroes in their quest for riches and greatness. Players can explore hundreds of quests, fight dozens of tough bosses and progress through the storyline. PvP Arena & Guilds also allow players to test their abilities & skills against others and enjoy powerful rewards.

Rush of Heroes has several social aspects to it, including PvP combat and guilds. Why did you decide to add guilds to the game and how did that change your approach to balancing single player?

Mark Pirrone, Sr. Product Director: Guilds add a social element to the game and increase the engagement of the players, which seem to really appreciate the complexity and challenge this adds to the overall gameplay. However, because the players were progressing very quickly through guild battles and acquiring a lot of guild contribution points, they were able to acquire higher buffs quicker than we anticipated. This gave them an unfair advantage in single-player mode and we have had to tighten up the difficulty of the end game to make it more balanced.

Players can go on guild raids, however, the rewards are shared. What of are some the benefits to performing guild raids that players can’t just get from farming single player instances?

MP: The rewards from guild raids contribute to guild points which result into better buffs & better guild shop items. The gold that you acquire in the raids is dependent on the damage that the user inflicts. You are also able to choose from the loot table which items you’re searching for and if looted, you get priority above other guild members for this item. This helps the users save both time and stamina and accelerates the grinding process. One feature that we’re really excited about releasing soon are leaderboards for guild damage, creating a further level of competition amongst guild members.

Guilds will be able to fight each other. Can you tell us a bit about how the game’s Guild Wars will function?

MP: We are really excited about our guild wars feature which will be released soon. The Guild Wars function will allow users to compete over the leaderboard. These will provide an additional level of complexity, challenge and also a great source for acquiring guild resource points.

How do the rare heroes obtained through contribution points compare to boss heroes the player can get in single player instances?

MP: There are 3 heroes that are only available from the guild shop using guild contribution points. One of these heroes is Gandling, which has two crowd control skills (team silence and team stun) as well as team buffs that increase the entire team’s magic power. We notice this AOE hero to be very beneficial in the lineup for a great team, especially as the players progress into the later stages of the game.

What kinds of buffs can players give their guild through the workshop, and do those buffs carry over into single player instances?

DM: There are currently 10 buffs that the player can benefit from the guild, however you can only apply one to your team at one time. The guild leader uses contribution points and chooses which of these buffs to invest more points into. These buffs range from attack, defense and armor penetration buffs. They provide a significant advantage and carry over both in guild battles as well as single player instances. We will be releasing more soon. Stay tuned!
