Square Enix announced that it is ending service of Bravely Default: Fairy’s Effect for smartphones and PC browsers on August 31, 2020.
Bravely Default: Fairy’s Effect is a free-to-play mobile game developed by Square Enix and Silicon Studio. It was first announced in November 2016 and released for smartphones in Japan in March 2017. The game will shut down on August 31, 2020 at 3:00pm JST, so that makes the end date at around three and a half years since its launch.
The developers apologized for the sudden notice and thanked all the fans for having supported the game for so long. However, after consideration, the staff deemed that it would be too difficult to continue providing a satisfactory experience to all players. With that said, it was decided that it would be for the best to shut things down after over three years of service.
Sales have already halted for the micro-transaction “Mithril” currency. However, players who still have Mithril will get to use it until the end of service date.
Check out an early trailer for the game below:
Bravely Default: Fairy’s Effect takes place about 8,000 years after the events of Bravely Default and Bravely Second. The Crystal’s power has mostly dwindled away and the world is going through a catastrophic event called ‘The Great Collapse’. Players can create their own avatars, join the battles of other players, or communicate through social functions.
Bravely Default: Fairy’s Effect is available for iOS, Android, and PC browsers in Japan.
