Bloober Team Analyzes Silent Hill 2 Remake’s James Sunderland in Video

Bloober Team released a new Silent Hill 2 Dev Diaries video going over James Sunderland and analyzing the character, now that the remake launched. Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart, Lead Writer Andrzej Madrzak, Senior Narrative Designer Barbara Kciuk, Lead Character Artist Pablo Poliakov, and Senior 3D Animator Jakub Zych all appeared in the video to discuss the development process and character. James’ voice actor Luke Roberts also showed up to discuss his portrayal and take on James.

Things began by setting up James Sunderland as a normal man in an abnormal situation in Silent Hill 2. From there, Lenart discussed how Bloober Team wanted to pay tribute to what was, then update and add their own touches. This portion went over how the character’s appearance changed over the in-game time spent in the town. So his facial hair growth is pointed out, as is the way his clothing deteriorates and how he starts to look more exhausted. The designers bring up how combat is designed to show how he is an “office worker” and not a warrior.

From about the four minute mark, the focus of the Silent Hill 2 Dev Diaries installment is largely on Luke Roberts and his portrayal of James Sunderland. We see both the voice acting and motion capture endeavors with Bloober Team. Roberts also shared what it was like to play the character.

Silent Hill 2 is available on the PS5 and PC worldwide. It will be a Sony console exclusive for one year. You can play the original game on the PS2, Xbox, and PC, as well as in Silent Hill HD Collection on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
