Best Servants to Pull for in Fate/Grand Order

The Japanese server of Fate/Grand Order is about to have its ninth anniversary and Lasengle has implemented over 400 playable Servants since service started in 2016. Unless you’re a veteran of the series, this number can be overwhelming. So which Servants should you prioritize getting and building? This list will give you a starting point in regards to the SSR Servants.

Recommended Videos

Something to keep in mind is that this list only features a small collection of Servants per class. As well, it only focuses on SSRs. There are some Servants of a lower rarity who are amazing for specific teams, niches, and battles so long as you build them right. While this list provides some of the best Servants to invest in for general or high-difficulty use, they’re not the only ones players should focus on.

As a note, this list takes into consideration the Japanese server. So there are some Servants on here who are not yet in the global server, or only just debuted as of the time of writing.

Artoria
Artoria was kind of a joke before, but her numerous buffs have helped her become the face of the series in more ways than one. Her powerful Buster performance, as well as her AoE NP and NP recovery skill, make her an amazing Servant when it comes to farming. Since she’s a standard Servant, you also do not need to wait until specific banners to get her (granted, that may make it more difficult considering the massive pool of potential Servants…)

Sengo Muramasa
Muramasa is a very powerful Arts Saber who is great for dealing with high-difficulty stages. His ability to increase his own Noble Phantasm’s power, as well as his 50% NP charge, make him perfect with a double Castoria setup, as he only becomes more powerful as battle goes on.

Other notable mentions: Artoria Alter, Yamato Takeru, Okita Souji

Archer

Durga
Durga is a very powerful Servant who’s great for farming and requires no real thinking or planning on your end. If Artoria is the Buster Queen for the Sabers, then Durga is the Arts Queen for the Archers through her Third Eye. She’s a fantastic choice for farming and can hold her own in high-difficulty challenge quests as well.

Super Orion
Super Orion is a beast of a Servant who can perform very well in challenge quests due to his powerful Critical Attacks. Despite his ability to grant Guts to himself, his survivability is just alright, but you’ll want to run him with supports like Castoria anyway for the NP charge.

Other notable mentions: Arash, Ptolemaios, Ishtar

Lancer

Melusine
Melusine is probably one of the best attackers you can get in the game, period. She’s good for pretty much any sort of content with her active skills, especially her unique Ray Horizon ability to shift her NP type. Downsides do exist though, such as her inability to activate Ray Horizon if you want to keep her as a single target Arts attacker.

Scathach
Despite how old she is, Scathach is a still a fantastic Servant when you want to go up against bosses or play challenge quests. Her Noble Phantasm is one of the best in the game not only for its sheer power but also for its guaranteed stun. With the addition of Scathach Skadi in the game, you can artificially assist her with her NP Charge issues, thus elevating her status even further in the meta.

Other notable mentions: Ereshkigal, Meltlilith, Sakamoto Ryoma

Rider

Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci is the best Rider, hands down. She’s great at supporting herself and the party, and she works amazing as a battery for Arts teams due to her Noble Phantasm. Due to her ability to spam her NP, which in turn charges NP for everyone else, she’s great when you want to farm.

Sakata Kintoki
For a free Servant, Kintoki is pretty insane and his welfare status only makes him better since you can NP5 him without pulling your hair out in the gacha. If you run him with characters like Scathach Skadi, you can really spam his powerful Noble Phantasm. She can also help with his survivability issues, as his HP is not the highest.

Other notable mentions: Taigong Wang, Habetrot, Ivan

Caster

Artoria Caster
Artoria Caster (Castoria) is one of the best Servants you can get in the game for multiple reasons, including her being the crux in the “Castoria System” method of playing. She’s amazing for buffing Arts characters and helping with your team’s survivability with her special Anti-Purge Defense buff. This can protect against enemies who can Ignore Invincibility, which often shows up in high-difficulty content. If Castoria is in the gacha, PULL FOR HER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

Scathach Skadi
Scathach Skadi is like a powerful Quick support who is able to help Servants spam their Noble Phantasms and deal massive amounts of damage. Because the Evasion and Instant-Kill Immunity she grants from her Noble Phantasm is for one time rather than a turn, you won’t end up wasting it if you use it at the wrong timing either.

Other notable mentions: Nitocris, Waver, Aesc

Assassin

Koyanskaya of Light

Like how Castoria and Oberon tower above the rest of the Servants in their respective classes, Koyanskaya is leagues above other Assassins. She has the unique ability to charge an ally’s NP gauge and reduce their skill cooldown using Innovator Bunny, as well as greatly increase their Buster performance with NFF Special. While one Koyanskaya is good enough as both an attacker and a support, the Koyanskaya System that uses two Koyanskayas makes her a popular pick in a lot of different content.

“The Old Man of the Mountain”
“The Old Man of the Mountain,” or King Hassan, is one of the best attackers when it comes to bosses and high-level content due to his high survivability and amazing Buster performance. Something unique to King Hassan is his passive ability to activate Instant-Kill with a normal attack. Combine this with his Evening Bell, Return to Dust skill, which reduces Instant-Kill resistance, and he has a high probability of taking down even the toughest enemies without having to whittle down their HP bar.

Notable mentions: Tezcatlipoca, Kama, Ryogi Shiki

Berserker

Ibuki Doji
Ibuki Doji has a plethora of useful skills and bonuses, meaning that she can serve as both a main attacker or a support. Unlike more card-specific supports like Scathach Skadi (Quick) and Oberon (Buster), Ibuki Doji can work in more generic teams. Her own 50% NP charge with Beach Apocalypse is very useful when you’re running her on teams like the Castoria System.

Morgan
Morgan is one of the best attackers in the game thanks to her high attack, powerful Noble Phantasm, class, and active skills. Her Noble Phantasm being able to deal extra damage against enemies with the Man Attribute is great since so many enemies fall into that category. As well, despite being a Berserker, she is also able to help support her allies in battle.

Notable mentions: Arjuna Alter, Sakata Kintoki, Artoria Caster (Berserker)

Ruler

Melusine
Melusine is a powerful Arts-focused attacker who stands out from the rest due to her Noble Phantasm. She can gain a 3-turn attack boost, as well as use her third skill to instantly gain an 80% NP charge. So even in situations where you don’t have a lot of enemies to form NP from or you’re not using her in a team that can help her, she can still spam her Noble Phantasm (within reason).

Scathach Skadi
Scathach Skadi (Ruler) has all the benefits of Scathach Skadi (Caster), so it stands to reason that she’s going to be here as well. Unlike the Caster version, the Ruler version of Scathach Skadi can also serve as an attacker due to her Noble Phantasm. As a note, the Ruler version can impart a total of 65% Quick performance increase per turn if you use both Primeval Rune (Midsummer) and Midsummer Ice Cream. This is 15% more than what Caster can apply, but Caster can also lower the enemy’s DEF by 30% which can help to balance it out.

Notable mentions: Johanna, Uesugi Kenshin, Amor (Caren)

Avenger

Chloe von Einzbern
To be frank, the biggest reason why Chloe is here is because of her Enough Time for a Revision skill. This lets you use Order Change without actually needing to put on the Chaldea Combat Uniform or Decisive-Battle Chaldea Uniform Mystic Codes. Outside of her ability to increase how many buffs you give your characters, her personal performance is pretty average.

Nitocris Alter
Like the Caster version of Nitocris, Nitocris Alter’s best points are her 100% NP charge from her second skill and her high chance of inflicting Instant-Kill on all enemies with her Noble Phantasm. This makes her good for both farming and challenge quests, especially when you pair her up with good support characters like Castoria.

Notable mentions: Jeanne d’Arc Alter, Space Ishtar, Marie Antoinette (Alter)

Moon Cancer

arcueid archetype earth moon cancer

Archetype: Earth
Archetype: Earth, or Arcueid, is a unique Servant who works as a fantastic NP charger and attacker. Something to keep in mind about her is that her Alignment changes depending on her Ascension. In Stages 1 and 3, she’s Chaotic Good. however, in Stage 2, she’s Neutral Good.

Sesshoin Kiara

Kiara is a unique Moon Cancer to use and while her skills seem quite complicated on the surface, they’re really not once you familiarize yourself with her rotation. She’s able to spam her Noble Phantasm and it dealing extra damage to enemies with a mental debuff is fantastic. This is because you’re able to apply mental debuffs yourself without needing to plan ahead.

Alter Ego

Ashiya Douman
Ashiya Douman is both a convenient farmer and a great support, especially when you have characters of the Evil or Chaotic Alignment with you. Because of his debuffs and self-Guts, he can also stay on the field for quite some time too. If you want him to go away though (since two of his skills have long cooldown times), you’ll need a Mystic Code or Servant capable of Order Change.

Larva/Tiamat
Tiamat is one of those characters who can do a lot of things, but doesn’t become a master of none. She’s great at farming with her high Noble Phantasm rotation, and she’s good in challenge quests because of her ability to debuff and disrupt enemies. The biggest disadvantage she has is that she’s an Alter Ego and that she’s just “okay” without Koyanskaya of Light and/or Oberon.

Foreigner

koyanskaya of darkness foreigner

Koyanskaya of Darkness
Koyanskaya is a really good attacker with her Noble Phantasm when it comes to farming, and her unique ability to buff Animal Characteristics Servants can be both a plus or a minus depending on your team. Aside from raw damage, she can also inflict handy debuffs like Poison, Curse, and Burn, which can be useful against powerful enemies. One of her biggest issues is the mere fact that she’s a Foreigner, but there’s no use complaining about that.

Kukulkan

Kukulkan excels in buffing the team and attacking enemies, especially on a Koyanskaya System team. Conversely, if you cannot run her with two Koyanskayas of Light, she’s not going to stand out as much. A major advantage Kukulkan has is that she’s one of the few Servants who can deal extra damage to those with the Threat to Humanity Attribute. This includes bosses and, most importantly, fellow Foreigners.

Pretender

Hephaestion
Hephaestion has pretty much everything a lot of the other Servants on this list has, so it makes sense why she’s here. Her ability to instantly charge up her Noble Phantasm makes her useful in farming or when you want to quickly clear a wave. As well, she can grant herself an advantage over Caster enemies. This is pretty neat, since Pretenders are by default strong against five different classes already.

Oberon
OBERON IS ONE OF THE BEST SERVANTS IN THE GAME. IF YOU’RE GOING TO PULL FOR ANYONE, PLEASE PULL FOR HIM. Ahem. Much like how Castoria is good for Noble Phantasm spam and Arts teams, Oberon is the support for Noble Phantasm spam and Buster teams. But what sets him apart is that his NP Damage Up Boost makes his End of a Dream skill useful even for people without a Buster Noble Phantasm. He can be a bit annoying or difficult to use though. The Eternal-Sleep debuff, the 20% decrease to NP from his second skill, and the pesky Invincibility application to enemies after his Noble Phantasm are a pain.

As a note, as of the time of writing, there is only one playable Beast-class: Sodom’s Beast/Draco. However, she is a fantastic representative for her class and is a powerful Servant due to her fantastic skills and high stats. If Lasengle runs her banner and you don’t have her, I highly recommend you try for her.
