If there is one thing about Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s that this game certainly has love and lust front and center. Even if you aren’t looking for romance in this game, the characters will certainly look to court you. With so many different party members in the game, what are the best romances in Baldur’s Gate 3? Here are my three recommendations for various types of players.
Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Romance for Beginners: Gale
If you’re new to a game like Baldur’s Gate 3 or just want a more straightforward romance, my recommendation is Gale. The Wizard who happens to have an explosive side is one of the most earnest and lovable romantic partners. It’s quite easy to get his approval and make him fall in love with you.
He is a kind guy with a secretive past, like everyone, but I find him a bit less intense compared to some of the storylines and secrets of other romance partners.
Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Romance That Pays Off Well: Shadowheart
Shadowheart was the character I gunned for right from the start of the game. I had a feeling she would be the harsh and closed-off person that would turn out to be one of my favorite characters, and that is exactly what happened. It takes a bit to get going with Shadowheart, and she is quite finicky with her likes and dislikes.
But if you can take the time to get to know her, her romance pays off so well. It also helps that her storyline and backstory are fantastic and integrate well with the core plot.
Most Surprising Baldur’s Gate 3 Romance: Astarion
If you want a romance that will genuinely surprise you, I would go for Astarion. He is so picky and hard to please, but he is also so much more than the devilishly handsome love interest he seems to be. Though lust is at the forefront of his relationship at first, there is much more to him than meets the eye.
His story goes in some surprisingly deep and serious directions, which I didn’t expect. And the best part is his romance ending, which is by far the most impressive and best out of the bunch.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for the PS5 and PC. It will release for the Xbox Series X/S later in 2023.
