Best Metaphor: ReFantazio Playable Characters

As you go through Metaphor: ReFantazio, you eventually end up with a part of seven potential playable characters who assist you in your endeavors. You can have three in your party alongside the protagonist at a time. Also, while everyone has their own stat spreads as they level up, equipping Archetypes lets you swap anyone’s roles. Still, there are some Metaphor: ReFantazio characters feel like they’re the absolute best fit for certain situations.

Best Metaphor: ReFantazio Magic User: Junah

Magic is incredibly powerful in Metaphor: ReFantazio, so much so that I’d even recommend dumping as many points into the hero’s Ma stat as possible. That’s also her strongest forte, and her Masked Dancer initial Archetype has fantastic fire and wind spells. She ends up becoming so powerful if you put her into the Mage, Healer, and Masked Dancer roles, or even eventually the Summoner if you don’t care for Eupha. Faker is also handy for her too. She just has so much potential for dealing damage by hitting elemental weaknesses.

Best Metaphor: ReFantazio Character for Physical Attacks: Strohl

Strohl is set up from the start as your physical attacker poster boy. He begins with the Warrior line, and all of those Archetypes prioritize raw attack power. From my experience, I found magical attacks more useful than physical ones. So… perhaps make him your sole physical attacker? Send him down the Warrior line. Give him some Brawler line Strike skills to inherit for one of his other roles. Maybe even let him try being a Gunner, so he can become a Sniper and get some AOE Pierce attacks. He’ll be great, since his stat spread supports dealing raw damage.

Best Metaphor: ReFantazio Tank Character: Hulkenberg

Hulkenberg basically lives for Endurance in some ways! Her stat spread super supports that! But that also might mean you’ll be at a bit of a loss when you pick what type of damage she does. The Knight and Commander lines are good for her. Keep her in the front row. But what I also loved is that her Knight roles also encourage dabbling in the Mage and Wizard lines. I felt most comfortable making her a supportive secondary magic user after my protagonist early on, and then had her using elemental attacks alongside him and Junah later on.

Best Metaphor: ReFantazio Speedster and Supporter: Heismay

Heismay is so fast. No matter what you do, he’ll be always acting first. I found that meant he was great for one of three things. The first is to steal. It’s a great way to get valuable items, and having him in the main party and act first to do so is great. The second is to support. Having him apply some buffs or debuffs right away is invaluable. The third is to launch an immediate AOE assault. I made sure he took up the Sniper Archetype for those AOE Pierce attacks, for example. Plus I made sure he had an Igniter with an AOE elemental spell tied to it. Use him to quickly prepare for the fight ASAP!

Best Metaphor: ReFantazio Party: Hero, Strohl, Hulkenberg, and Heismay or Junah

Okay, hear me out. Everyone in Metaphor: ReFantazio can become a valuable character, but because of the order in which some people join, they might end up being the best to go with as you play.

A big part of Metaphor: ReFantazio is having a wide repertoire of Archetypes and abilities to draw upon. Because you have Strohl and Hulkenberg by your side from the very outset, both of them will be incredibly well-built by the time later arrivals join the party. Strohl’s stat spread and Warrior Archetype line both put him into position as someone who can handle your Pierce, Slash, and Strike weaknesses and physical damage. Since Hulkenberg needs to multiclass and pick up magical abilities via the Mage line for later Knight Archetypes, she could also be a tank who deals magical damage for your party.

By virtue of starting with the Thief Archetype and being well-suited for that line of classes or fast-acting supporter roles, Heismay also can secure a stable spot in the party. Or, at the very least, start out in the crew to inflict buffs/debuffs or fast damage, then swap in for another magic user.

Since magic is incredibly powerful in Metaphor: ReFantazio, Junah pretty much secures a spot for herself due to the Masked Dancer line being well-suited for it and her stat spread putting her in a good position for Mage and Healer roles. Her also needing to dabble in Faker for her Masked Dancer ultimate Archetype also helps make her valuable.

Don’t let this keep you from experimenting with parties that include Eupha and Basilio! Both are fun! They just join so late that the others may be more established.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There is also a demo available.
