Best Japanese Switch Horror Games Worth Playing

The Nintendo Switch may be a hybrid platform, but it still has plenty of scary games for players to check out in handheld or TV modes. When it comes to Japanese horror games, in particular, there is a decent number of them on Switch. Here are the best Japanese horror games on Nintendo Switch in terms of gameplay, visuals, terrifying content, and more.

Resident Evil Revelations Collection

There are quite a few Resident Evil games available on the Nintendo Switch; almost all of them, in fact. That said, when it comes to pure horror, my personal recommendation is the Resident Evil Revelations Collection. You get two epic Capcom games that harken back to the older style of this horror series, especially with the first one.

Navigating an abandoned cruise ship as Jill Valentine is one of the spookiest experiences on the Switch. This is the purest, most enjoyable survival horror experience on Switch that doesn’t delve too much into the action department.

Death Mark

Since the Switch doesn’t get some of the higher tech horror titles of the other platforms, many of the best ones come from visual novels surprisingly. Death Mark is a truly gripping adventure, as you play as a character with the titular mark that means certain death in a matter of days. As such, you explore some of the most horrifying classic areas like haunted school, creepy forests, and more.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water

This Wii U entry in the beloved Fatal Frame series got a second chance on Switch. Few other horror games make the player character as powerless as this one. Your only means of defense against terrifying ghastly enemies is a camera, which you use to take pictures of them. This title has some dark, scary environments to explore and countless jump scares for those who like those.

Paranormasight

Another horror visual novel entry on this list, Paranormasight is quite different. Its fascinating mix of 2D characters with a rich 3D environment allows for an unsettling aesthetic. The story is quite rich with various characters fighting to survive in a spooky death game of sorts. This is one of the scariest visual novels I have ever played and it is well worth a look for its decent level of interactivity.
