In Palworld, Coal is an essential resource as you need it to craft Refined Ingot for higher-level structures and weapons. This guide will break down the best Coal farm locations in Palworld so that you can mine the precious ore consistently.

Where are the best places where I can farm Coal in Palworld?
Although Coal can technically be found in various spots on the map, many locations take forever to travel to and only have a few rocks to mine. After spending over 50 hours in the game, I have found a spot that can be warped in seconds and has an abundance of coal that can be farmed in large quantities.
The best place to farm coal in Palworld is the Sealed Realm of the Guardian fast travel point next to the Vaelet alpha boss on your map. The location is just east of the Mount Flopie Summit and south of the Free Pal Alliance Tower entrance in the snowy Astal Mountain region.
Sealed Realm of the Guardian Coal farming route
After arriving at the Sealed Realm of the Guardian, you can find groups of Coal minerals on top of the mountains in the area. If you have one of the available flying mounts in Palworld, you can easily fly from the warp point to the mining location in seconds. If you can’t fly, just make a quick trek to the top of the mountain on foot.
Below are the steps you can take to farm Coal:
- Warp to the Sealed Realm of the Guardian fast travel point.
- Make your way to the top of the mountain that surrounds the area.
- Once you find a group of Coal, craft a Palbox with 1 Paldium Fragment, 8 Wood, and 3 Stone to set up a base. Also, craft a Primitive Workbench.
- Walk up to your Palbox in your new camp and select “Pal Box Management.”
- Add Pals with Mining Skills to the empty slots in the “Pal who is at the base.”
- Craft wood chests to store your coal. Chests can be made with 15 Wood and 5 Stone.
You can see the route you can take to easily farm Coal in Palworld in the map below:
Twilight Dunes Coal farming route
The best early-game place to farm Coal is in the Twilight Dunes desert region. This isn’t as good as the Sealed Realm of the Guardian route because you will need a Flying Mount and heat-resistant clothing. Unfortunately, there isn’t a fast travel point closer to the desert, but this is the best area to get Coal at the beginning of the game.
The easiest way to use this route is to warp to the Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant fast travel point and then use a flying mount to fly to the desert next to the Alpha Anubis boss on your map. Once you land on the spot shown on the map above, you will see a cluster of five Coal rocks you can mine.
I would honestly only use this spot when you are early in your game and you just need to grab 100 pieces of Coal in a pinch. As I said earlier, the Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant fast travel point is the closest warp spot, so it’s a bit of a trek whenever you want to fetch the mineral in this location.
Pals that drop Coal in Palworld
There are only two Pals in Palworld that drop Coal. Unlike Bone in Palworld, it’s not as feasible to farm the mineral from Pals given how little there are in the game. However, if you prefer to get Coal from creature catching, we got you covered!
Below is the list of Pals who have a chance to drop coal:
- Blazamut
- Menasting
The only thing I’ll warn you about with this method is that Blazamut spawns into the map as an Alpha Boss at level 49. Conversely, Menasting is around 43 to 44, so these are really tough encounters. If you really want to get coal in Palworld, you are better off just using the farming methods listed above.
Once you have farmed enough Coal, you can make an abundance of Refined Ingot at your furnace in Palworld. However, you will still need to mine ore as the refined version of the metal requires both ingredients to be made.
How do I build a Coal Mine in Palworld?
It is also possible to build a Coal Mine in Palworld once you reach a high enough level, which can help make it easier to farm the resource. However, this takes quite a while to unlock. After you get to level 53, it is possible to unlock it. You’ll need to spend five Ancient Technology Points in the technology tree to get it.
Once you unlock the tech, it is fairly easy to build a Coal Mine at your camp. However, you also need to do quite a bit of Coal farming to do so! You will need 30 Paladium Fragments, 70 Stone, and 100 Coal to set one up. Once you do, you’ll also need to catch a Pal to become a miner for you. In a pinch, Cattiva or Depresso will be able to work at your mine. However, I recommend catching Blazamut, Digtoise, or Reptyro to help out.
Palworld is now available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
