Best Bardlock Build in Baldur’s Gate 3 (Bard and Warlock)

Baldur’s Gate 3 has 12 unique classes, but players have the option to mix and match them as they please. The Bardlock BG3 build is one of the most fascinating and versatile in the game, as it mixes together the Bard and Warlock classes. Here’s how to create one.

What should I consider when making my best Bardlock BG3 build?

From the stats you should primarily center on to the background you should pick, here are the different settings you should select when creating your Bard and Warlock Bardlock BG3 build:

  • Character Race: You can pick any race, as the benefits from each one is minor. That said, if you want a race that goes well roleplay-wise, I would suggest any Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Halfling, Dragonborn, or Gnome.
  • Background: This is also up to your preferences. I recommend Acolyte, Charlatan, Entertainer, Folk Hero, Guild Artisan, Noble, and Sage.
  • Attributes Focus: Charisma (both use this stat), and then either Dexterity or Constitution
  • Primary Weapon: Quarterstaff or Dagger
  • Bard Instrument: Personal preference but I like the flute or violin, personally.
  • Level 1 Class: Either works, but I go for Warlock first since I focus on it and you get your sub-class immediately.
  • Level 2 Class: Switch to Bard if you haven’t yet.
  • Level 3 Class: Bard again.
  • Level 4 Class: Reach Bard level 3 if you haven’t already for its sub-class, or switch to Warlock if you already have it.
  • Levels 5-12: This is up to your personal preference from here on out.

Which class should I focus on?

The big issue with multi-classing in this game is that the max number of levels you can reach (without mods) is 12. This means you can, at best, split the levels for the Bard and Warlock classes evenly at six levels each. But this means you will miss out on the awesome late-game spells and skills for both of these classes.

As such, I recommend focusing on one of the two classes as your primary one. This one should reach level eight or so, while the other only reaches level four. This lets you get the benefits of your secondary class, while still having the late-game options for the primary one. This, ultimately, comes down to personal preference. For me, I would make the Warlock my primary class and Bard my secondary, but it comes down to if you prefer the magical or more supportive side of this unique build.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
