Vocations are the Job Class system of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which allows players to swap up their playstyle depending on what role they’ve chosen. This guide breaks down the best Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the Arisen, depending on what role you want your main character to fulfill in your party.
The Best Vocations for Arisen in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Each Vocation has its own use, but some are better than others. The list below provides a nice mix of melee and ranged Vocations you can pick from, all with their own benefits and detriments. Feel free to experiment and see what works best for you. You can read about how to change your character’s class in our Where to Change Your Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide.
Mystic Spearhand
This is by far one of the best Vocations in the game. The Mystic Spearhand grants you access to Mirour Shelde which negates any kind of incoming damage for a short period of time. And I mean any damage. It also soaks up any sort of stun or stagger an enemy may hit you with, making you and your Pawns impervious for that period of time.
It’s great for tanking hits or even helping revive Pawns that may have gone down during the fray. Other than that, it’s skills are great traversal tools, whether Capcom intended for that or not. I used the jump and dash provided by Mystic Spearhand to cross over certain bits of impassable terrain, saving me some time walking around the map. And it’s just fun.
Warfarer
You get the best of all of your Vocations with the Warfarer. Since you are able to effectively swap between Vocations, you get access to a wide range of skills you can utilize at a whim. Want to throw spells while also dashing forward with daggers? Well you can with the Warfarer. Granted, it takes a little bit to unlock this Vocation, but it’s worth it if you want more engaging gameplay, or to tailor your moves closer to your own playstyle.
Sorcerer
Powerful and potent, the Sorcerer can deal loads of damage. While it’s a great Vocation for your Pawn, it’s also great for you too. You can sit back and cast while your Pawns distract enemies, showering enemies in flame, hitting them with a debilitating sphere for frost, or even reigning down meteors. When hunting dragons and the like I switched over to Sorcerer for a short period since Seisma and more powerful spells helped stagger these particularly dangerous foes, allowing them to be taken down swiftly and efficiently.
Magick Archer
This Vocation is capable of performing ranged attacks with various elemental attributes slapped on. You will no longer need a Mage to empower your weapons; you can do that yourself. Like the Archer you can strafe from a distance and shoot at a target’s weak spot to deal additional damage with more precise shots.
What makes Magick Archer so great is the aforementioned ability to imbue your strikes with elemental damage. You’ll never be ill prepared for a fight against wolves, as they ill like fire, or caught off guard by a griffin again. Keep in mind, however, this Vocation is strictly ranged which may leave you wanting for some melee options.
Thief
An odd suggestion to some, but the Thief can shred through enemies at higher levels. The swiftest and most dangerous melee DPS in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Thief truly shines with some of its Meister skills, with one allowing them to slow down time to dash behind enemies and strike at them.
If you enjoyed the Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Rise, you’ll feel at home with the Thief, or if you want something more fast-paced. I was tearing through Ogres and other large monsters in seconds with the Thief and barely taking damage due to its high mobility.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
