Final Fantasy IV: The After Years began its life as an episodic mobile phone game only for Japan. Later this year, it will come out on WiiWare in North America. How do the two versions look side by side? I whipped up these comparison shots to give you an idea.

The map in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years has been expanded to make use of a widerscreen, but it doesn’t look like Square Enix is polishing the sprites. And why would they? Most of the graphics are actually from the Super Nintendo version of Final Fantasy IV released many moons ago.

Square Enix altered the battle display a bit. Since there is more room the menu shows each character’s maximum HP, remaining MP, and the ATB bar.
