If you want one of the most flexible mage classes around in Baldur’s Gate III, you should consider the Sorcerer. Capable of dealing all types of magic, it also has some of the most unique subclasses around for a magical character. Given all that, it means a lot of options could be result in the best Baldur’s Gate III Sorcerer build for you.
What is the Best Sorcerer Subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3?
As someone who mains a Sorcerer in Baldur’s Gate III, alongside a Cleric, this is one of my favorite classes. You have three subclass options: Wild Magic, Draconic Bloodline, and Storm Sorcery. Wild Magic is unpredictable and powerful, but I don’t recommend it to most players.
Storm Sorcery, on the other hand, is heavily versatile. You have the option to put yourself in a place to not get as damaged each turn after using your spells and gain some valuable resistances.
My favorite of the three is Draconic Bloodline. It gives you a dragon edge, even visually, and lets you pick an ancestry. This gives you resistance to one of the elements, and is especially powerful if you are already a Dragonborn character.
For instance, you could pick a Blue Dragonborn race and gain lightning resistance from that, but then pick a Red Draconic Ancestry from Sorcerer to now have fire and lightning resistance right from the start.
Ideas for the Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer Builds
Once you pick your subclass, it is now time to create the rest of your Sorcerer build in Baldur’s Gate III. Note that your background and some of the other parts of this process don’t matter that much.
Here are the cantrips, spells, and abilities you should consider picking:
- Cantrips: Fire Bolt, Ray of Frost, Bone Chill, and Poison Spray
- Spells: Magic Missile and Thunderwave
- Abilities Focus: Charisma and Constitution
- Recommended Armor Type: None or Light
- Recommended Weapon Type: Light Crossbow
Baldur’s Gate III is available for the PC and will release for PS5 on September 6, 2023.
