How Baldur’s Gate 3 Honor Mode works

Baldur’s Gate 3 Honor Mode is one of two new modes in Patch 5. Players create a new run of the RPG using this feature, which functions like the expert or hard mode. With it, players are unable to reload any saves whatsoever. You are locked into all of your decisions and rolls, so no save scumming is allowed.

In addition, all boss fights have been reworked with more than 30 changes. These bosses have new actions and abilities in this mode, which makes the fights more surprising and challenging. Finally, some of the exploits players could use in the regular version of the game are unavailable here, so you have to win through sheer skill (and luck).

Tips and Rewards for completing BG3 Honor Mode

There are several reasons why players may want to check out Honor Mode, including how pure the game is. It forces you to make a decision and stick with it, such as killing off key party members. But if you complete Honor Mode without your character dying, you also get a special reward in the form of the golden D20 dice.

Since you can’t save scum in this version, you’ll need to carefully use skills like Guidance, which boosts your dice rolls. In addition, you’ll want to rest often and well so you aren’t caught off-guard with fights. After all, if your main character dies in the Honor Mode, it is essentially a game over. You’ll get various stats for that particular run’s completion. You do have the option to continue, but you switch to a regular version and miss out on the Honor Mode reward.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PS5 and PC. It will also be released for Xbox in 2023.
