Baby Sanrio Character Tots Arrive in Cradles

Bandai has started selling Sanrio Characters Baby Friends toys, which feature baby versions of the Sanrio mascots in cradles. Each toy costs 396 JPY ($2.80) and you can find them in the snack aisle of stores across Japan.

These little toys will come with a soda-flavored gum in each box. Though the toys are for kids age three and up, the gum might not be, as it’s a choking hazard. There are eight variations of toys to collect. You can get:

  • Cinnamoroll
  • Hangyodon
  • Hello Kitty
  • Kuromi
  • My Melody
  • Pochacco
  • Pompompurin
  • Tuxedosam

For some reason, My Melody and Cinnamoroll are the only ones crying. Cinnamoroll is the only baby to have a toy in his hands—perhaps because he is the most popular Sanrio mascot—so it’s unknown what he can be crying over. My Melody might be crying due to Kuromi bullying her.

Tuxedosam and Pompompurin, on the other hand, are not crying even though they don’t have pacifiers in their mouths. Since Tuxedosam has a beak, it might be difficult for him to suck on a pacifier. It’s unknown why Pompompurin isn’t, since he has lips, but it might be so that kids can see the cute design of his mouth.

The Sanrio Characters Baby Friends toys, which come with a gum, are available in stores around Japan. You’ll need to look for them in the snack section.
