At the very last minute, Atlus canceled its Nintendo 3DS Final Sale on digital games. The sale was supposed to take place on March 2, 2023 in Japan. However on March 1, 2023, Atlus announced that it will no longer happen. It did not state a reason in its announcement. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
During the sale, customers would have been able to purchase Atlus games for the 3DS for 1,000 JPY. That would have been around $7.35 per game. The international eShop also shows these games available for their regular prices, rather than a discounted one. Games that would have been available for cheap included the Etrian Odyssey titles, Persona Q games, Shin Megami Tensei games, and Radiant Historia: perfect Chronology.Â
The translated message on Atlus’s website merely stated that it suspended the sale for a variety of reasons. It apologized to customers for the trouble and asked for their understanding. The Nintendo 3DS Final Sale from Atlus would have ran from March 2-28, 2023.
As a reminder, the eShop for the 3DS and the Wii U will close down on March 27, 2023. This simply means that you cannot purchase new games or DLC. However, if you own a license for the game, you can re-download it at any time. For example, if you want to buy Shin Megami Tensei IV in April 2023, you cannot. But if you had bought it when it first came out and then deleted it, you can download it again because you have the license for it.
Atlus games on the 3DS will not be on sale in Japan before the eShop closes on March 27, 2023.
