Atlus has announced a world tour for Metaphor: ReFantazio, which is its upcoming fantasy RPG. It also released a statement about the game on its official Twitter account.
News for the world tour appeared during the live stream on December 11, 2023. Atlus first announced this broadcast during TGA 2023, which was also our first look at members of the main Japanese cast. There’s not much information about the world tour except that it will also commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Atlus brand.
Judging by the description for the world tour, though, it looks like there will be booths at events around the world where players can experience a test build of Metaphor: ReFantazio. Aside from the world tour, Atlus has also released a statement on the setting for its upcoming RPG. Here is a translation of its Tweet:
As can be seen with the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, Atlus has produced a lot of stories set in the modern world to deliver a unique setting and experience to all of our players. It’s precisely because of the worldwide support we received for Persona 5 that we decided now is the time to try our hand at a fantasy RPG. We’ll be able to produce a fantasy story that wouldn’t be possible in a more modern setting. It won’t just be a return to the retro days of fantasy RPG. Our policy is to use this genre to deliver a special and original story.
While this work will count as an anniversary game for us, it will also serve as an accumulation of what makes Atlus “Atlus.” You can’t advance if you lose to fear or anxiety and stop. We’ve built our story and gameplay around this theme. We will approach this game in the same way we’ve made games since before Persona 5, and deliver a different experience that’ll satiate your curiosity with Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Metaphor: ReFantazio will come out in 2024 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam.
