Compile Heart recently revealed its new desert-themed RPG called Arc of Alchemist that features art by Yoshitaka Amano and story by Senran Kagura writer Yukinori Kitajima. We got more information on the game from this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]
The producer of the game is Norhishia Kochiwa who commented, “What we have here is a mix of the uniqueness from our splendid creators, for a chemical reaction that goes beyond imagination. Those of you who like RPGs, please check out this chemical reaction.”
The director of the game is Kosuke Uchida who worked as a programmer in Fairy Fencher F: Advent Dark Force. The scenario is being written by Yukinori Kitajima who worked on 428: Shibuya Scramble, the Senran Kagura series, and Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius.
Mota is in charge of character image, and former-Square Enix game designer Kyoji Koizumi, who previously worked on the SaGa series battle system, has a role of system adviser. Koizumi-san commented, “I’ll be in a position of a foreign helper to participate in the development of an RPG that takes you on a desert adventure.”
Lastly, we have Cattle Call on the 3D modeling, and Yoshitaka Amano who is best known for his commissioned illustrations for the Final Fantasy series, as the concept artist.
As far as gameplay goes, the game has a tactical action battle system where you’ll move seamlessly from field to battle. You’ll also get to build facilities in the middle of the desert for power-up functions.
There’s a job system for your party, and you’ll get to decide on putting together your troops as well as movements depending on the situation, but as far as battles go your allies will move on their own.
A “Lunar Gear” system was also briefly mentioned. This is a system that lets you slot elemental orbs of fire, earth, water, and wind to perform various actions in battles and while exploring the field.
Here are some of the key characters:
- Quinn Blazeford (CV: Reina Ueda)
- Sandra Weinland (CV: Moe Toyota)
- Sharon Valor
There are characters designed by Yoshitaka Amano who appear in the game as well. The setting is a huge desert, where they say a great power rests. However, those who approach the desert lose their lives after being attacked by automatons that are powered by it.
Arc of Alchemist releases in Japan on November 29, 2018 for PlayStation 4.
