Yasuke, an anime series following the accounts of a legendary African samurai, will release on Netflix on April 29, 2021. The official Netflix Twitter account shared the release date and a few stills from the upcoming series. Additionally, it was shared that Flying Lotus will score the series. LaKeith Stanfield will provide the voice for Yasuke.
The series was originally announced in 2020, with character turnarounds being posted online. However, this is the first time stills from the anime have been shared, all of which include Yasuke. With a release date for the Yasuke anime now revealed, more information is slowly being shared.
This series is based on the historical figure, Yasuke, who was the first African samurai. Befriending Oda Nobunaga, Yasuke fought alongside the Japanese warlord in the Sengoku Period. This series will follow some of these accounts. However, information regarding the specific events the series will cover have yet to be revealed.

The series will be a collaborative effort between LeSean Thomas and MAPPA. MAPPA has worked on series such as Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, Yuri!!! on Ice, Dororo, Attack on Titan: The Final Season, and is scheduled to work on the upcoming animated adaptation of Chainsaw Man.
Yasuke will be available to stream through Netflix on April 29, 2021.
