People have another reason to pick up the Animal Crossing Sanrio amiibo cards, as they’ll unlock new villagers. Nintendo’s latest tweet confirmed that the NFC cards, when scanned into the game, can be used to move in characters. This means Hello Kitty, Keroppi, and My Melody-inspired villagers will all officially be available outside of Japan. So will their furniture.
When the Animal Crossing Sanrio amiibo cards appeared in Japan alongside Animal Crossing: New Leaf, they could summon new campers. People could use MEOW tickets to get clothing and furniture inspired by Hello Kitty and other Sanrio icons. Folks who imported those amiibo cards could also access them. When Animal Crossing: New Horizons first launched, scanning one of those cards would only add special posters to Nook Shopping.
Here’s a list of the characters who appear with the six Animal Crossing Sanrio amiibo cards that will appear at Target.
- Cinnamoroll-like Chai the Elephant
- Hello Kitty-fan Rilla the Gorilla
- Keroppi-dressed Toby the Rabbit
- Little Twin Stars-themed Etoile the Sheep
- My Melody look-a-like Chelsea the Deer
- Pompompurin-clad Marty the Bear
And here’s the video showing all the Animal Crossing Sanrio villagers in New Horizons. It also shows the new furniture and clothing that will appear.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch. The six Sanrio amiibo cards will be sold in a pack at Target starting on March 26, 2021.
