The Animal Crossing: New Horizons box art has been revealed, and it brings with it a look at two new characters who will appear in the game. In the background of the image, a new beaver and a dodo bird both appear. Each one’s actions in the image provide a hint as to what they might be doing in this latest adventure. As both are wearing full outfits, complete with shirts, pants, and accessories, they are obviously special characters and not villagers.
The dodo bird is standing next to the Dodo Airlines offices and seaplane. In trailers, we have seen the seaplane before. It seems like this dodo could be fulfilling a role similar to Kapp’n’s or Porter’s. Perhaps when we visit the station to arrange a flight to a different location or another player’s island, this dodo will be in charge of getting us there safely.
The other character is a beaver. They have the same sort of coloring, ears, tail, and teeth as Chip, the host of the Fishing Tourney in almost every Animal Crossing installment. (Tortimer was in charge of it in Animal Crossing: Wild World.) With the idea of island living in full force, perhaps this means fishing could have a greater importance in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and this beaver could be in charge of some sort of challenges or endeavors.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons will come to the Nintendo Switch worldwide on March 20, 2020. Nintendo recently showed off the island in all four seasons and new renders showing how a person’s character could be customized.
