People who have been wanting an Animal Crossing-like game like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but don’t have a Nintendo Switch, will have a new option to consider in 2020. Robert Tatnell’s Hokko Life will be heading early access on PCs this year. A Steam listing is already available.

Like Animal Crossing, Hokko Life involves players heading to a town filled with anthropomorphic animals and building a life for themselves. The bug hunting, decorating, fishing, and villager-befriending you’d expect are all here. So is the ability to customize clothing and create your own designs for you and your animal friends to wear.

However, Hokko Life will have some features that set it apart. Part of the reason you move to this village is to help build it up into a town. You’ll build new homes for neighbors and decorate them. The game will also allow you customize furniture. You’ll be able to adjust how the different pieces that appear in people’s homes look, even determining if there are additional decorative accents like pillows. Farming elements will also be present.

Some of the full Hokko Life elements are discussed on its product page. In addition to more avatar, clothing, and furniture options, different design and sharing elements were confirmed. For example, the department store will “sell” things other players have made. There will also be extra in-game events.

Hokko Life will open its doors via early access in 2020, with a full release expected in the first half of 2021.
