Sanrio has had crossovers with a number of video games over the past year. In 2023, we saw it collaborate with both conventional and unconventional titles you may not have expected to see given the cute treatment. Yet, this year, Sanrio’s reach extended beyond the boundary of our expectations for what could and could not be considered “cute.”
Here’s a full list of all of the Sanrio video game crossovers in 2023 so far:
Identity V Cinnamoroll and Hello Kitty cameo
On December 28, 2023, Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll will make an appearance in the multiplayer horror game Identity V in the form of plush pets and costumes. They were even given creepy stitched button eyes in accordance with the game’s art style in the key artwork promoting the crossover. Identity V is available on Android and iOS devices, as well as PC.
Granblue Fantasy Sanrio Outfits
For a one-day April Fools Day event, Cygames’s mobile game Granblue Fantasy welcomed the Sanrio mascots Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin. For 24 hours only, players could get Sanrio outfits for the characters and a playable Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin unit. Granblue Fantasy is available on iOS and Android devices.
Shadowverse Sanrio collaboration
On July 27, 2023, Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty, and Kuromi appeared in a Sanrio crossover with Shadowverse. During the collaboration period, the Sanrio characters’ leader skins were able to be purchased from the in-game store. They all were given new outfits for the event. Hello Kitty appeared dressed as a dragon, while Kuromi was a necromancer. Pompompurin specialized in swordcraft, while Cinnamoroll was a mage. Shadowverse is available on iOS and Android devices, as well as PC.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Sanrio skins
In July 2023, Sanrio mascots Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty, and Badtz-Maru were included in a collaboration event with the mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. This was an encore event that featured four skins obtainable through the gacha. Playable characters from the game were also given new outfits themed around the Sanrio character they were paired with. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is available on iOS and Android devices.
Merge Fantasy Island My Melody and Kuromi Cameo
The casual mobile game Merge Fantasy Island welcomed Sanrio mascots My Melody and Kuromi to its world. These characters brought with them new areas to explore in-game, like My Melody’s Macaron Shop and Kuromi’s Canelé Shop. New Sanrio-themed decorations were also available. Merge Fantasy Island is available to download on iOS and Android devices.
That’s all of the video game collaborations Sanrio has been a part of so far this year. What will be in store for Sanrio collaborations in the next half of 2023 and beyond? We’ll have to wait and see.
