If you like to flirt around on the dark side or just want to play as the Dark Urge, you may want to conclude your time with Baldur’s Gate 3 with an evil ending. There is a good number of evil endings you can get in Baldur’s Gate 3 and these are our thoughts on all of the best ones, ranked from most to least impressive in terms of story, writing, twists, and pure malice.

In general, endings can have hundreds of different variations. This is because of the dozens of companions and NPCs you meet in the three Acts, which can affect who helps you in the final battle. That said, it can all boil down to four possible main evil endings worth checking out. Full spoilers warning for the entire game.

All BG3 Evil Endings, Ranked: Absolute Control

This is by far the quintessential evil ending. In the final battle against the Netherbrain, you defeat it and, in this ending, decide to take control of it. In turn, you become the next Absolute. All of your party members will be shocked at this twist and generally disgusted by your choice.

But none of it matters since they soon come under your control, as you dominate their minds and ascend to your throne. This is a true tyrant ending and the one for players who like a more traditional evil ending.

Gale’s Sacrifice

This isn’t as evil as some of the others, but it certainly is a disgrace to Gale as a character. Leading up to the final battle, it is possible to force Gale to sacrifice himself. To do this, you need to complete his entire side story with Mystra before the battle begins.

Then, in Act 3, you can persuade Gale to use the bomb in his chest to blow himself up and take out the Netherbrain in the process. This actually shortens the final battle sequence and saves you some time. If you can stomach eliminating one of the best companion characters.

Kill Everyone

Going back to Gale for a moment, this is one of the most bizarre possible endings. In Act 2, you learn about the bomb in Gale’s chest. If you happen to let him die in battle and then refuse to revive him, the Netherese bomb in his chest will eventually go off. This will kill everyone in the party, including your character, and end your playthrough prematurely.

This evil ending puts the player back into the main menu to start all over. While it lacks fanfare, this ending is just wild enough to avoid being the worst evil ending.

Rule With The Emperor

The last evil ending worth mentioning has to do with siding with The Emperor in the final battle. After you defeat the Netherbrain, you can, of course, destroy it or take control yourself. But if you are feeling particularly oddly evil, you can convince The Emperor to take control and rule alongside you.

Except it doesn’t really work that way. The Emperor will take the throne and you’ll watch as your entire party, including your character, becomes mindless thralls. Unless you really like your weird Dream Guardian Mindflayer potential love interest, I don’t recommend this one.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available right now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
