AKIRA 4K and Paranoia Agent Blu-rays Launch in December 2020

Funimation revealed two hallmark anime Blu-ray releases for December 2020. The Paranoia Agent: The Complete Series Blu-ray release will happen first on December 15, 2020. The AKIRA 4K remaster’s Blu-ray will launch shortly after on December 22, 2020.

With Paranoia Agent, people get the full Satoshi Kon series about Lil’ Slugger, a mysterious figure who attacks people with a golden baseball bat. The 13-episode series investigates the people looking into him and his victims. Grabbing the set gets you the whole show on Blu-ray, episode one storyboards, the Satoshi Kon and Susumu Hirasawa (composer) talk show, the Paranoia Radio audio commentary, and promotional items like a PV and trailer. (If it sounds familiar, you might have caught it on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.) A copy can be pre-ordered through Funimation’s store for $37.49, though the page notes the retail price will be $49.99.

As for the AKIRA 4K remaster Blu-ray, it gives people the remaster that aired in Japan in April 2020, supplemental digital content like Geinoh Yamashirogumi’s AKIRA Sound Clip, AKIRA Sound Making 2019, the 1988 original end credits, a trailer collection, and a storyboard collection, and a 40-page booklet. It’s selling for $44.99 through Funimation, and its retail price will be $59.99.

Paranoia Agent’s Blu-ray set will be available December 15, 2020 in North America. The AKIRA 4K release will come out on December 22, 2020.
