Back in April 2020, Bandai Namco announced that the Nintendo Switch arcade fishing game Ace Angler (Fishing Spirits in Japan) would be getting a large-scale update this summer focusing on expanding the multiplayer component of the game. Now we have learned more about the update’s specifics, which will include a new mode. The company also revealed that Ace Anglers has sold over 500,000 copies since its release back in July 2019 in Japan. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Check out the update trailer below:
The game will be getting a new Party Mode with six minigames that can be played by up to four players. The first will involve throwing out a net to catch fish for points, with the player who gets the most points winning. The second will be a race to catch tuna by seeing who reels in the fish the fastest. The third will have you pulling up an undersea net at the right time to get the most fish at once. The fourth is going to be another speed-based game during which you’ll need to swing and shake the Joy-Cons. The fifth will have players fishing while trying to avoid making an anglerfish angry. The sixth will be a quiz game where you need to catch the fish holding the right answer. There will also be a Tour Mode that lets you play all of the games in a row. There will be three different game length options, each with a different number of minigames.
Another new mode called Snatch Battle will be added. Up to four players must try to catch as many giant fish as possible. Whenever two players’ reels get close to one another, a Snatch Battle will occur. Players must then fight against each other for possession of the fish.
Finally, new stage called the Rock Pool will appear with a Monster Eel as a boss. Following the update, there will be more than 250 types of sea creatures available to catch in this game.
Ace Angler is available for the Nintendo Switch in Japan and will release in the SEA region on July 21, 2020. Perhaps not coincidentally, the multiplayer update for Ace Angler will be released on July 21, 2020 too.
