Aquaplus recently revealed their secret title as the latest entry in the Utawarerumono series with Utawarerumono: The False Mask, which releases this September. In this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, they revealed that a third title is already in the works. [Thanks, Hachima]

“Actually, we already planned on making Utawarerumono a trilogy,” Aquaplus president Naoya Shimokawa said to Famitsu. “Four years ago, we temporarily announced it as Utawarerumono 2, but I’d like to consider it a grand historic tale like The Three Kingdoms, so it felt strange calling it part one, then adding 2 and 3 to the titles.”

“So to give it a little piece of history, we decided to add a subtitle to it,” he continued, adding that the reason they’ve kept fans waiting is because they weren’t just working on a second title, but the third title, too.

According to the Aquaplus president, the scenario team has already finished writing the story for the second title, and they’re currently working on the scenario for the third game. While he didn’t share any specific release dates or time frame, Shimokawa promised that the third game will be released somewhere between a year-and-a-half to two years after the release of Utawarerumono: The False Mask.

Utawarerumono: The False Mask will release in Japan on September 24, 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita.
