Where to Find Hardwood in Coral Island

In Coral Island, hardwood is an essential material for higher level upgrades. However, it’s not an easy material to find, and it might be a while before you see it regularly.

Hardwood is tougher than standard wood, so it’s used for items such as upgrading your animal enclosures or for gold and osmium grade tools. It’s also used as a material in a few crafting recipes, including the best scarecrow in the game. You will need it for the Aging Barrel and Oil Press artisan machines, which are required to get wine and cooking oils, too.

Where Can You Find Hardwood in Coral Island?

Hardwood is rare in Coral Island. It can typically be found be chopping logs found around the map.

The first batch of logs you’re likely to encounter will be on your farm, but these all require a Gold Axe to chop, which you need hardwood to unlock in the first place. These logs also do not respawn once destroyed. Another option is to upgrade to the Silver Axe and chop the log to the west of Ben’s caravan near the river. This also doesn’t respawn, but it will net you an initial stockpile. This hardwood can then be used to unlock the Gold Axe for the farm logs.

After this, you’ll need to unlock the hidden area in the deep forest. After making six offering sets to the Lake Temple, this area will open up on the west of the forest. Each day two or three logs will spawn here that can be chopped for more hardwood. These also only require a Silver Axe.

The best tactic to get hardwood is to upgrade your axe and your foraging skills. As you level up your foraging ability by chopping down trees, digging up rough patches of ground or picking up wild plants, you’ll gain skill points. When you earn your third skill point, you can select a skill on the second line that adds a chance to get hardwood to drop when you chop down any tree.

Hardwood will also become available from the Carpenter once you get the town up to B Rank. However, this may take some time and you’ll likely need some hardwood before then, so the unlocked forest area is your best option until then.

Coral Island is out now for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
