How to unlock the camera in Metal Gear Solid

Ghosts in Metal Gear Solid are elusive, appearing only in specific locations and through the lens of your camera. To start your ghost-hunting adventure, you’ll first need the camera item. You start the game with one after beating the game twice on any difficulty. However, you can also find one in-game through a level 5 door in the area where you fight Revolver Ocelot.

Once you have the camera, simply take a photo in specific locations and a ghost manifest in the photo. These ghosts are actually members of the development team. For example, you can find series creator Hideo Kojima’s ghost when photographing the Policenauts poster in Otacon’s lab.

As morbid as it sounds, corpses, such as the DARPA Chief and Kenneth Baker, will usually have ghosts lingering around them. Try and spot all the different ghosts by looking for strange things to photograph as you play Metal Gear Solid.

Once you capture a ghost photo in Metal Gear Solid, you can “exorcise” the specter. To accomplish this, navigate to the “special” menu. Within this menu, you can access the photos you’ve taken, and you’ll observe an additional “exorcise” option on any photos featuring ghosts.

Simply select “exorcise,” and the ghost will return to the aether. There’s no need to do this beyond the fun of it and the pursuit of the “Ghostly Encounter” achievement in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. However, you only need to exorcise one ghost to earn this achievement, so you can leave other spooky snapshots intact

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will launch on October 24, 2023, across various platforms, including the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
