Is Ao Playable in Disgaea 7?

Ao is one of the key characters you meet rather early on in Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless. But as you might be able to tell from the opening moments of the game and even the free demo, she isn’t playable at the start. Does this mean Ao isn’t playable at all, or does she join the party later in the story? Well, basically, you need to play for a while.

So can I play as Ao in Disgaea 7?

Note: There are some spoilers ahead for the game.

The answer to whether or not Ao is playable in Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is, yes, she is playable in the game. However, some players may not be happy with the details of this answer. While you can control her on the battlefield, level her up, customize her, and the like, you’re going to need some patience in order to do so.

Ao is only available very late into the game, pretty much near the story’s conclusion. This makes her more of a post-game character than a core party member like Pirilika, Fuji, and the other main characters. If you have any hope of adding her to your team and using her in battles, you’re going to have to wait quite a long time or blast through the main story.

This is a rather interesting way to handle Ao since she is the “daughter” of Fuji, the main character of this title. She appears pretty early in the story, too, and often plays a role in everything going on with her “father” and the other characters. But she takes a backseat in the gameplay department until pretty much the endgame, which might be disappointing for some.

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.
