How to Unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign in FFXIV

The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign is one of several Extreme fights players can unlock in FFXIV. Perhaps one of the most challenging level 60 Trials in the Heavensward expansion, it is a more embellished version of the standard fight found in the Main Scenario Quest. Much like previous Extremes, you can obtain unique items by facing off against Thordan under more difficult conditions.

How to Unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign in FFXIV: Heavensward

Thankfully, unlocking The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign is relatively simple. After completing the Main Scenario Quest “Heavensward” and clear The Singularity Reactor you can immediately unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign. All you need to do is head to Mor Dhona (X:21.7, Y:8.6) and speak to The Wandering Minstrel. Accept the quest “Thordan’s Reign” and you will have the Extreme version of the fight at Azys Lla (X:21.4, Y:22.5, Z:8.7) unlocked.

The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign is a far more robust version of the normal fight. It features an extra set of mechanics that appear near the tail end that will rely on your positioning in order to defeat King Thordan and his Knights. Like all Trials in Heavensward, this fight can be done unsync’d, with a weapon coffer and possible Round Lanner Whistle for an exclusive mount as rewards.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
