In total, there are around five different core factions you can join in Starfield. There are other groups beyond these, but they are mostly smaller ones with minor quests and storylines. The five main factions are what you might expect from a Bethesda title, such as the Brotherhood of Steel or Dark Brotherhood in past games.

Which factions are in Starfield?

The five main factions you’ll be able to join in Starfield are as follows:

  • Constellation
  • Crimson Fleet
  • Freestar Collective Rangers
  • Ryujin Industries
  • United Colonies

Constellation is the group at the center of the main story in Starfield and who you’ll want to spend a lot of time with if you want to beat the game. On the other hand, the United Colonies is home to the capital city of New Atlantis. Oddly enough, you can join two separate factions in the UC in two different storylines, including the Vanguard and SysDef.

The Freestar Collective Rangers make places like Akila City and Neon their home, being something like the sheriffs of the galaxy. Speaking of Neon, you can head to this industrial and beautiful shady city to join Ryujin Industries, one of the key corporations there.

Finally, there is the Crimson Fleet, which is the collection of space pirates in the galaxy. You actually have the option to side with them or the UC SysDef during this faction storyline, so you kind of join both at the same time.

Beyond those, there are some smaller factions you can help out in the game, such as GalBank, which offers you the chance to hunt down people indebted to them or HopeTown where you can assist a corporation. These are smaller groups, though, without the massive storylines of the core five factions.

Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X and PC.
