Who Should Go Into the Zaith’isk in Baldur’s Gate 3?

One of the enduring mysteries and conflicts throughout the main story in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the ever-present mind flayer parasite in your mind. From the beginning of the story, your goal is to rid yourself of this parasite and finally be free. As part of this, one character has the chance to go into the Zaith’isk machine in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it is up to you who should go into it.

Should You or Lae’zel Go Into the Zaith’isk in Baldur’s Gate 3?

You can find the Zaith’isk machine in Baldur’s Gate 3 once you reach the Githyanki Crèche. To find this, head to the Rosymorn Monastery on the Mountain Pass route to the Moonrise Towers. In the basement of the monastery, you’ll find the Githyanki troops.

On the far side of the Crèche, you’ll find a doctor who has a machine with the chance to remove the mind flayer parasite from your head. However, there is a catch, as there always is for this game. You can only pick one person to go in there first, and Lae’zel wants to be the one.

As such, you have to decide who should go into the Zaith’isk machine in Baldur’s Gate 3. You can pick between Lae’zel or yourself as the first person to go in and be potentially freed. However, though the doctor promises you’ll both be able to enter it eventually, I’ll go ahead and spoil for you that only one person gets to do this.

As for which person to go with, I recommend letting yourself go in there after saving the game. You see, when you enter, the parasite will try to fight back against the machine to stop it. You have to pass various skill checks to succeed or face irreparable damage, and Lae’zel isn’t suited for those checks.

But if you can succeed in the skill checks, the machine will overload and blow up. You won’t, unfortunately, get the parasite out, but you will gain a permanent bonus where your Illithid powers are now considered bonus actions, making them easier to use in combat.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PC and PlayStation 5.
