How to Tame Monsters in Rune Factory 3 Special

In some Rune Factory games, you can start adding monsters to your farm relatively quickly! That’s not the case in Rune Factory 3 and its latest Special rerelease. Given the hostility between humans and monsters, it takes a while. So before getting to tame a monster is even an option, you have to beat a boss and build a barn in Rune Factory 3 Special.

So the first thing you need to do is continue through Privera Forest until you reach the tanuki acting as its boss. (You’ll need to solve the statue puzzle and fix the bridges first.) Once you do that, you can head to the blacksmith in Rune Factory 3 Special to talk to Gaius and have a monster barn built.

Show up at the forge at 9am the following day and talk to Gaius. If you have 40 pieces of lumber, you can get one built. You don’t need any gold. Just tell him to make it and, by the time you get back to your fields below your home at the Sharance Tree, it will be ready.

From there, you need to start giving monsters gifts. Food tends to work, but the creatures tend to like certain ones more than others. So a Wooly won’t like a random colored grass from a field or dungeon, but it will accept an apple. Buffamoos tended to like milk, which is an item they drop, but they dislike apples. You can tell if an item is a hit or a miss, as after you give it to a monster, there will be thought bubble that will show a large heart for liked items and a skull and crossbones for disliked ones.
