How to Fish in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact has a fishing minigame that is playable across all of Teyvat’s regions. However, you will need to complete a series of steps and quests before you are able to unlock the mechanic.

How do I unlock fishing in Genshin Impact?

Fishing is unlocked at Adventure Rank 35 in Genshin Impact after you complete the “Exploding Population” quest. To get the special fishing mission, you must first unlock the Serenitea Pot by completing the “A Teapot to Call Home” quest. The gadget introduces you to the game’s Housing system. Once you have access to the Serenitea Pot, the fishing World Quest will be active at the Mondstadt Adventurer’s Guild after speaking to Kathryne.

Once you’ve finished the “Exploding Population” storyline, the ability to fish in Genshin Impact will be permanently available. I know what you’re thinking; that’s a lot of work to get access to a small fishing minigame. Unfortunately, this also means new players will have to progress quite a bit into the story before being able to use Teyvat’s best fishing spots.

How do I fish in Genshin Impact?

To fish in Genshin Impact, you need to find fishing spots scattered across Teyvat. Because they are unmarked on the map, the only way to find these locations is to look for water areas that have ripples in them. As you move closer, you will immediately see a pool of fish as well as a button prompt to start the activity.

After triggering the fishing minigame, a menu will pop up where you will be asked to select your fishing rod and bait. The window will also show you which fish are available at your current location. To purchase new rods, you will need to visit a Fishing Association. Fishing Bait can be created at any Alchemy station crafting table, although you will need to pick up materials in the overworld.

The fishing minigame in Genshin Impact is fairly straightforward. Hold the fishing button down to select where you want to aim, and then let go to cast your line. Once a fish bites your bait, hold down the fishing button again to hook the fish. The minigame requires you to keep your energy bar on top of your screen within the small fishing meter zone. You will need to constantly let go of the fishing button and then press it down again to keep your bar inside of the small window. After enough time has passed, you will automatically catch the fish.

Certain fish only come out at specific times. So you will want to re-visit fishing locations during both day and night to catch different creatures. As you progress through the game’s regions, you will also unlock additional crafting material to create new kinds of bait.
