TVT announced Ratatan, which will be a spiritual successor to Patapon. The previously-teased “Project JabberWocky” being Ratatan was revealed during BitSummit Let’s Go on July 14, 2023. Ratatan’s Kickstarter will open up on August 1, 2023, with more information on things like backer rewards coming out on July 29, 2023. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]
So far, there’s not a lot of concrete information about Ratatan. However, the dev team has stated that it aims to create new content that won’t betray Patapon fans’ expectations. There will also be more characters compared to the previous game. Kemmei Adachi, who worked on Patapon, will continue to provide music for Ratatan. It’s unclear if there will be multiplayer, local or otherwise, in the game. Patapon did start featuring multiplayer from the second game, so there’s the possibility of Ratatan having it at launch.
Patapon first came out in 2007, and was a combination between a rhythm game and a strategy one. In total, there were three games in the series. In Patapon, the player controlled a deity that controlled the eponymous Patapons using drumbeats. You could also perform miracles that affected the weather depending on how high your combo was.
Ratatan is in development and its Kickstarter will open up on August 1, 2023. More information on the game will come out on July 29, 2023. Its other project, Project Shaz, will continue development after TVT makes more progress on Ratatan.
