How to Get White Pikmin in Pikmin 4

White Pikmin are yet another Pikmin 4 type of creature that isn’t going to be as plentiful as the Blue, Red, or Yellow varieties. You find them later in the game, for one. They’re also a little frail and tend to be very good sacrifices for taking down bigger opponents. So you’ll need to wait a while to find some for your squad.

Editor’s Note: To avoid spoilers immediately after launch, this guide will only cover their locations in the first four areas.

So odds are White Pikmin will be the last kind of “wild” ones you find in Pikmin 4. They aren’t terribly uncommon, but it takes a while before you start seeing them. They first appear in the third map of the game, but then also show up after as well. You might get a chance to pluck some from the ground or to toss up to five existing Pikmin you have in your party into a flower to get five White ones.

Like all wild Pikmin, finding them once in an area adds markings to maps. When you’re choosing one to explore from the hub, there will be icons showing if White Pikmin will be in a cavern there. When you’re in a map, you can bring it up to see if cleared caverns house White Pikmin. You can also ask Oatchi to “sniff” them out after finding them once. If any are in caverns on the map, he’ll take you directly to the cavern.

Here are two definite places you’ll find them in the first four areas.

  • Serene Shores: Subzero Sauna
  • Hero’s Hideaway: Doppleganger’s Den

Spoilers aside, after finishing Olimar’s Shipwrecked Tale, a White Pikmin Onion can be found after finishing the base’s Trial of the Sage Leaf 5th Story.

Why do you want White Pikmin in Pikmin 4?

White Pikmin exist either to clear out hazardous areas with sticky mushrooms and mold in a cavern or to poison enemies. That’s it. They aren’t as strong as normal Pikmin, even though they are a bit speedy. But you basically use them to clear out contamination or let an enemy eat one to damage it. I’ve found this meant my stockpile of this type stayed rather low.

Pikmin 4 is available for the Nintendo Switch.
