Yukong Teams in Honkai: Star Rail Benefit from Offensive Ultimates

Yukong in Honkai: Star Rail is an Imaginary Harmony character whose SPD requires some fine-tuning no matter what team she’s in. This is so that you can take advantage of her Roaring Bowstrings buff, which is her core use as a support unit. She is also a great Imaginary support due to her Traces.

The Bowmaster Trace that Yukong can unlock increases the Imaginary DMG of all allies on the field. This makes her a really support unit for a mono-Imaginary team, which became possible as of Version 1.1 with the additions of both her and Luocha. In general, when you’re putting a team together with Yukong as your support, you want her to be either the fastest character or the slowest character. No matter what order the cycle goes in, you always want the two DPS characters in your party to move after her so that they, rather than your healer or shielder, will get the attack bonus from her Roaring Bowstrings.

There are two things to keep in mind when putting together a Yukong team in Honkai: Star Rail. The first thing is that Ultimates don’t actually eat up a turn; they’re extra turns, if anything. So in a situation where everyone can use their Ultimate and Yukong’s Roaring Bowstrings are up, you can use all of the Ultimate while enjoying the ATK bonus without affecting her stacks. What this means is that it’s best to have a full party of people with offensive Ultimate if possible. The second thing is that Yukong eats up your SP like crazy, so use characters who aren’t reliant on Skills. Yukong will still need to alternate between her Skill and Basic ATK though.

Some Yukong teams you can try out in Honkai: Star Rail are:

  • Welt/Silver Wolf/Yukong/Luocha
In this build, Silver Wolf will pull double duty as sub-DPS and debuffer since you want Luocha free to heal in emergencies. This mono-Imaginary team will also take advantage of Yukong’s passive Imaginary DMG boost for the whole party. Silver Wolf won’t get to enjoy that, but between three Imaginary characters, it should even out.
  • Dan Heng/Jing Yuan/Yukong/Luocha
You can take out or replace characters depending on who you have. However, the general theory for using Yukong is having two DPS characters who will both move after Yukong does. You might have to adjust Relics to account for SPD differences, but make sure Yukong is either the fastest or the slowest, and you’ll be fine.
  • Sushang/Silver Wolf/Yukong/Luocha
You can switch out Silver Wolf or Luocha depending on what you want or have. But this team mainly focuses on Sushang. Silver Wolf is here to slow down enemies so that Sushang can move more often, but you don’t necessarily need that. This team takes advantage of Sushang’s Ultimate granting her another turn, so Yukong’s Roaring Bowstrings will be specifically for Sushang. In that sense, you can think of this as almost a Sushang hyper carry, and adjust your team party accordingly.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on Windows PC and mobile devices. PS4 and PS5 versions are in development. As a 4-star character, Yukong is perpetually available in the gacha.
