“Smooth like Butler” is one of those Final Fantasy XVI quests that isn’t terribly difficult, but does involve a lot of steps. You’re basically going to two different places, fighting some enemies, passing along a message, then returning to the original location to close things out. However, you do get an accessory that might be helpful if you use the Bahamut Eikon, so it evens out.
How to complete ‘Smooth like Butler’ in Final Fantasy XVI
Things start in Martha’s Rest. Thjs sidequest can come up once you started the “Cloak and Dagger” mainline quest. You want to teleport to it on the Rosaria map, then head to the second floor of Martha’s inn. Rutherford, Lord Byron’s butler, is there waiting with a task for Clive. There are two people he’s trying to get in touch with, but can’t reach. It’s up to you to go find them.
The first person you’re looking for is outside of Dalimil. Head to the Dhalmekian Republic map, then go south out of town. You can see the location in the screenshot I took below. It’s impossible to miss this person, and an event triggers when you get close. A battle will trigger with some level 33 enemies. The story scene triggers once that fight is finished, as you’ll have found the first missing person, and you can move on to part two.
Next, you’ll want to go from the world map to Northreach at the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. There are two parts to this portion of the quest. First, head directly east of Northreach to find a “straitlaced gent.” This is Rockford. I positioned the indicator in the screenshot below to show where he is.
After talking to him, continue east through the gate. Again, the indicator in the following screenshot I took shows where the encounter is. It automatically triggers when you get close. More level 33 enemies await. Defeat them to again trigger another brief scene.
With that done, go back to Martha’s Rest in Rosaria to report to Rutherford on the second floor of the inn. You’ll get 900 EXP, 1,000 gil, 35 renown, 25 Steelsilk, 25 Bloody Hide, and The Breath of Light (Flare Breath) accessory for Clive that decreases the skill’s cooldown.
Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
