Octopath Traveler 2 Reaches One Million in Sales

Octopath Traveler 2 sales passed over a million units, according to Square Enix. The news was announced on the official Twitter account. The tweet featured a commemorative illustration by artist Tatsuaki Urushihara featuring the characters Throne, Ochette, and Osvald.

The million sales figure takes into account both physical and digital sales across all platforms worldwide. The Octopath Traveler 2 sales a little slower than the first game’s, which reached the million sales mark after about a month. Octopath Traveler 2 sold the same amount in just over three months. By contrast, the mobile spin-off Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent reached 3 million downloads within two days upon its initial release in Japan. However, Square Enix appeared to be pleased with Octopath Traveler 2‘s sales figures based on the tweet.

Octopath Traveler 2 released in February 2023. It released to rave reviews, with most reviewers praising it as an improvement over its predecessor. It is the direct sequel to 2018’s Octopath Traveler, the first of many games in Square Enix’s HD-2D style. Since the release of Octopath Traveler, other games to use the style have included Triangle Strategy and the remake of Live a Live. An upcoming remake of Dragon Quest III will also be using the visual style.

Octopath Traveler 2 is out now for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC.
