Final Fantasy XVI ‘Carving Out a Niche’ Guide

“Carving Out a Niche” is a Final Fantasy XVI sidequest that can be a little troublesome initially when trying to find certain people around Dalimil. However once you do get that part out of the way, it’s easy to help Sava figure out what kind of knife he should try carving.

How to complete “Carving Out a Niche” in Final Fantasy XVI

This Final Fantasy XVI sidequest appears during the “Riddle of the Sands” mainline quest. Sava the apprentice smith is at L’ubor’s blacksmith on the Dhalmekian Republic map. L’ubor gave him a riddle to try and determine if he gets to continue in his training and move up. However, he’s not sure what it means. So for the first part, you’re looking for the cook and hunter in Dalimil. They’re in a pretty big highlighted area in town. So, here are some screenshots I took showing their exact locations on the map.

Meet up with Sava to compare notes. He’ll suggest going to the Velkroy Desert market to talk to a metal trader. You’ll find the person here on the map below.

After that, you need to get three pieces of Spring Lime from the deposit. This is clearly marked on the map and just outside town, and all three gathering spots are visible once you get to the area shown below.

Head back to Sava with the materials. He’ll make the knife. After L’udor passes judgment, you get a Goblin Coin and 200 EXP, 800 gil, and 10 renown.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
